WHO IS SYNOSENSE?
SynoSense is this year’s incredibly motivated interdisciplinary team of 15 science students representing the KU Leuven at the fourth edition of the SensUs competition. This international competition, organised by the Technical University of Eindhoven, challenges 14 teams from universities all over the world to design and build a biosensor. As such, SensUs encourages future scientists to bring innovation to healthcare applications in a friendly competitive manner. Under the guidance of qualified coaches and prof. Jeroen Lammertyn, the KU Leuven team has been on the podium every single year, bringing home 4 gold and 2 silver medals in different categories. This year again, Synosense is eager to invest all its time, energy and shared ambition into this collaborative enterprise.
ADALIMUMAB
This year, adalimumab is the target of interest. This anti-inflammatory drug is used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, among others. Monitoring the levels of adalimumab in blood is essential in bringing such treatments to a successful ending. However, measuring these levels is typically done in a laboratory which is expensive and time-consuming. Biosensors on the other hand offer a quick and user-friendly solution, resulting in better therapeutic decisions and saving unnecessary costs.
